We're not sure when Boy Scout Troop 125 was first chartered by Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA), but we are in the process of researching its history. Generally speaking, the lower the Troop number, the older the Troop. Its chartering organization, Fork Union Military Academy has been around since 1898 and is located in central Virginia near the Rivanna and James Rivers. We can only surmise that Troop 125 has been around a long time.
Troop 125 is composed of local, national, and international middle and upper school students attending the Academy. Because FUMA is a military academy, the cadets are organized into the Corps of Cadets, and then companies and squads. Leadership is selected from the Corps to receive training and then manage the day-to-day duties and activities of the Corps of Cadets. The Boy Scout Troop, organized into patrols, is boy-led at every level. Every Scout will hold a leadership position in a patrol or troop as he advances in Scouting. The FUMA Boy Scout has a unique opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills throughout his career at Fork Union Military Academy.
If new to Scouting, we recommend perusing the Boy Scouts of America website. Valuable information about the Scouting organization, its history, values, as well as advancement criteria are provided.
The Boy Scouts of America is organized into Councils that are divided into smaller Districts supporting the individual local Troops. Troop 125 is in the Monticello District, a part of the Stonewall Jackson Area Council.
