PERSONAL EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Generally, the activity will determine what is required by the individual Scout. The Scout will require less on Troop camping events than he will need when on overnight hiking/camping activities. If your cadet is new to Scouting, we recommend minimal expenditures until he commits to Scouting. He can always share a two-man tent with another patrol member until he learns to love camping, the outdoors, and the Scouting experience.
At first, your Scout will need The Boy Scout Handbook, a uniform, warm socks, a three season sleeping bag, a foam pad or air mattress, a flashlight, thermal underwear, a compass, canteen or hydration device (camel back), and rain gear (poncho). Eventually he will want and need his own eating gear (bowl, fork and spoon, cup), a backpack, and a one or two-man tent.
Once he earns his totin' chip he will be allowed to have a folding knife. Fixed blade knives are not allowed. In addition, knives cannot be kept on his person or in dorm rooms. (See storage of personal equipment below). As he advances he will also need to create and maintain a personal first aid kit.
STORAGE OF PERSONAL EQUIPMENT
Arrangements have been made with the Commandant's Department for temporary storage of personal scouting gear. All equipment can be placed in a large plastic storage conainer or in the Scout's backpack (if he has one). Please ensure that all equipment is marked with the Scout's name. Upon arrival on campus, inform one of the TAC officers on duty so the equipment can be placed in temporary storage. The personal equipment will be moved to the Troop equipment storage area for easier access as soon as Troop leadership is contacted by the Scout.
